Cleanupoil--Equipment--Oil Skmmer

An oil skimmer is a device which can collect floating oil from the surface of water. A skimmer can be free floating, side mounted on a vessel, or built into vessel or into the apex of a containment boom, held by a crane or by hand.

Skimmer may be static or dynamic, and can be divided into three categories. Stationary skimmers are from their designs can be type of

Adhesion / Oleophilic Skimmers:
---- uses the oil character and ability to stick to certain materials, a sorbent boom is typical one


Air conveying Skimmers:
---- Vacuum trucks or smaller vacuum units are used as skimmers, suitable for very light oil to be skimmed by vacuuming

Belt Skimmers：
---- The belts are used in the skimmer as the transporting carrier of oil collected from the surface of water and dump it into a sump or a pump

Inclined Plane Skimmers:

----Common principles for Mechanical feeder Skimmers are those that collection or recovery force of oil is derived from mechanical force
	Vacuum systems
Vortex Skimmers:
---- This type of skimmer creates a vortex in the central zone of the skimmer, by rotating and evacuating water through the bottom of the recovery chamber, using a large diameter propeller pump or paddle wheel.

---- The most popular one. All the weir skimmer does the same as we use a table spoon to skim the oil on top of the soup

COES’s response resources have armed with a various skimmers which can work at open sea in very tough weather conditions and also recover oil from polluted dock, harbor where the operation space were limited. The response team has not only conducted a number of successful exercises in skimming operation but also were called in the scene of accident for real response in success in the past year 2005.
